Happy New Year! Here’s What’s Coming Up in 2022…

Happy New Year to you all! We hope you all had a restful, festive Christmas and feel rested and regenerated for the year ahead. It was another strange one, and we also hope that you were blessed with negative lateral-flow tests and could gather with the ones you love. We’re slowly getting back to it, all ready for another year on the land, growing food, gathering folks together and exploring deeper into our relationship with the living world through stewarding this patch of Earth we’re on.

We’re excited for another growing season - the chance to build on what we learnt last year, try some new things, improve and streamline our growing, and understand further the intricate web of life that supports our growing, and how best to work with nature, not against it. And as we begin the new year, we wanted to share some of the exciting things we have going on in 2022!

Growing Roots - FREE Saturday Workshop Series

We are delighted to finally release the dates for our 2022 Saturday workshop series! COVID-19 has put our programmes on hold the last couple of years, but we are delighted to be able to offer this rich, empowering & exciting programme of free* day workshops. We’ve called the series ‘Growing Roots: Pathways to Resilience, Regeneration & Relationship to the Land, and they are designed to share practical pathways to a more sustainable life, to deepen your connection to nature and to empower and resource yourself to take positive action for the planet, your health and wellbeing and your local ecology.

Here’s a taster of some of the workshops we have coming up. If you’d like to find out more, or book, just click on the images below.

Our 4th Veg Box Season

Now that the festive time has passed, and the days are getting longer, we can feel the coming surge of Spring not far away - which means only one thing. It’s time to sow the seeds of the new veg growing season! We’ll be feeding our 50 member households once again through our CSA veg box scheme, delivering weekly boxes of freshly pulled and cut greens and vegetables, salads and wild foods throughout our local area, between the rivers Taf & Tywi in Carmarthenshire, West Wales. Every year there is a little excitement in the belly - a new season, a clean slate, the chance to try new things, new plant relationships, new vegetable varieties, build on the successes and learn from the failures of last season. Every year the soil is richer and more alive, the trees in our agroforestry system a little more established, and the harvest a little more bumper!

We’ve made a few changes to how we do things. Learning from our solidarity scheme last year, and keen to make this food affordable and equitable for all in the community, we’ve decided to offer our veg box memberships on a sliding scale, offering members to pay what’s realistic for them within a certain range.

We’re also offering a zero-waste, packaging-free option on our veg boxes, whereby members can elect to not use compostable salad bags, but rather use their own reusable containers to keep their grrens fresh. Although we use the most environmentally-friendly packaging on the market, we’re still trying to reduce the footprint of our veg boxes, and so not packaging at all feels like the goal!

We still have a few spots available for new sign-ups. Click here to secure your spot and to find out more bour our veg box memberships.

Cegin y Werin ~ The Peasants’ Kitchen

We were delighted with the response to our weekly FB Live cooking demos from the Peasants’ Kitchen last year. Thankyou if you tuned in on a Thursday lunchtime! You can still watch all of our ‘Cegin y Werin LIVE’ episodes over on our Facebook page, as well as the ones we uploaded to our YouTube channel, like this great video on how to preserve your vegetables and wild green using fermentation….

We’ll be making lots more of these live cooking demos from the garden and kitchen this season, and we’d love to hear from you about what you’d like to see. Is there anything you’d love to learn about cooking? Maybe you want to learn to cook with a little more flair and creativity, with the Welsh seasons and what’s growing locally? Let us know!
