Every year, we gather together to celebrate the coming of Summer with an extra special Calan Mai celebration - it's become a big part of the Glasbren calendar and one of our favourite ways to welcome you all to the farm!
This year, we’ll be continuing our annual tradition of Maypole dancing, gathering Hawthorn blossom and boughs of flowers to decorate the spaces, and lighting the May fires. Renewing Welsh Calan Mai traditions of old, with a sprinkling of our own, we’ll meet as Summer arrives to celebrate the fertility in the land that will provide us with food this year. Thanks to support from the National Lottery Community Fund, we have an excited programme of activities planned, including Hawthorn Ink Making with land-based artist Karn John, Little Stewards activities for children, a plant sale, food from the fire with chef Deri Reed and Cegin Hedyn CIC, and and really special evening of music, storytelling and fire to round things off.
We are excited to welcome storyteller and mythologist Angharad Wynne, and musician Simmi Singh for a very special, immersive Calan Mai experience in the barn in the evening.
For this extra special Community day, we are offering a range of ticket options. The afternoon activities are FREE and open to all. Due to the limited capacity of the barn, we have added a ticket for the evening, and are asking for donations on a sliding scale to attend. We want to make sure the barn is full for this extra special event, but equally that you are not disappointed not to get a seat!
The afternoon programme (1pm-5.30pm) is completely FREE. The evening programme (including food) is offered on a tiered ticket system. We have a low-income ticket for £5 and a 'pay-it-forward' ticket for £15. Choose which one best reflects your circumstances.
